Me & Meg

Hi, I’m Jue, the maker behind Megs Metal Designs.

Megs began rather accidentally after I retired from nearly 40 years working in finance. I suddenly had more time for my garden, but I also needed something new to get my teeth into. What started with making a few simple metal pieces for myself has rather grown from there.

I make and weld every piece myself, creating the sort of things I genuinely love. Everything is made in the workshop in the Cotswolds, then comes home with me to be tried and tested in my own garden. That’s where I’m happiest, and I love finding just the right spot for a new design and photographing it amongst the planting. And when it leaves me, I like to make the parcel feel special too — because sometimes the best presents are the ones you buy yourself for your own self 🌸

My Story

It really started with retirement, a little too much time on my hands and a trip to a garden centre.I spotted some simple metal garden stakes that I liked. My husband, who owns an engineering business, took one look at them and couldn't believe what I was about to pay for them. He suggested I make my own instead.

So I did.

I started making pieces for my own garden in a corner of his workshop and quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it. One idea led to another, and before long I was developing my own designs and wondering whether other gardeners might like them too.

They did.

In April 2025, I opened my Etsy shop and Megs Metal Designs was born.

The Boys

I worked from home for around 15 years before I retired, so having Doug and Frank around while I worked has always been completely normal. When Megs came along, they simply followed me into the next chapter.

These days they’re regular workshop companions. Doug takes his supervisory duties quite seriously — particularly where biscuits are involved — while Frank’s contribution is mostly interruption, mischief and demanding attention.

They’re not terribly useful, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
